Coaching Explained: 4 Ways I can support you on your hearing loss journey

It is not always easy to know where or how to begin living successfully with hearing loss, particularly when hearing loss is sudden. You may feel shock and grief, and it can be challenging to deal with both the practical and emotional impact of your loss. It can take time and perseverance to understand how hearing loss impacts different aspects of your life and the accommodations you need. It can be difficult to know where to turn for support.

As a hearing loss coach, I support people with hearing health issues, helping them to improve their emotional well-being and move forward positively with their hearing loss.

Coaching can help you change the way you view yourself and your limitations. I help my clients work on key themes such as confidence-building, self-advocacy, and navigating life with hearing loss.

I provide support through coaching in a variety of ways, including the following:

  1. I listen with empathy

When did you last have a conversation where you felt fully heard? Coaching is essentially a conversation, but one that is very different to your everyday chat with colleagues or talking about your day with a friend or partner. I provide a non-biased, non-judgemental space for you to talk uninterrupted and reflect. Since I have first-hand experience with hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders, I am an empathic listener. This time is for you to discuss your thoughts, feelings, and goals. You will have my full undivided attention.

2. I share my experiences

We can learn so much from each other's experiences, particularly from someone who is in a similar situation or is living with the same challenges. I know what it’s like to live with hearing loss. I am always happy to share what has helped me on my hearing loss journey. Of course, what I found helpful, might not be helpful for you, so it is my job to help you find what works best for YOU. Likewise, I am always happy to answer questions, as long as the overall focus remains on you and moving forward with your thoughts and goals.

3. I am your accountability partner

Need an accountability partner—Someone to hold you accountable in your efforts to achieve self-improvement? I can be just that! I will help you to think about what your next steps will be towards your goals, and I will check in with you during each session to see how you are getting on.

4. I help you find a way forward

Through thoughtful questioning, I aim to uncover, explore, reflect upon and challenge your thought processes.

I will help you to dream, set goals, brainstorm and plan actions. Together, we can plan your first step to living happily with hearing loss.
